Pedestrians along Jerome Avenue in the Bronx were witness to a terrifying scene beneath elevated subway tracks. A Westchester Bee-Line bus was traveling near the point where Jerome intersects Bainbridge Avenue when it was struck head-on by an SUV. The SUV was sent into the bus’s path after being struck from behind by another vehicle.
After the collision, the bus was sent careening into a pillar supporting the tracks above. The bus was totaled, and 14 of its occupants were left injuries, including the driver; they were taken to Jacobi Medical Center, according to FDNY spokesperson. A 69-year-old man was left in critical condition.
In news reports, passersby described hearing the sounds of crashes and seeing the aftermath. At least some part of the accident was caught on surveillance video. Still, law enforcement is unsure what caused the crash, and an investigation remains underway.
Victims may have right to compensation
A serious can crash can turn your life upside down. You may be left with serious physical injuries, medical debt, job, and mental trauma.
Thankfully, victims have options. They can file a lawsuit against those responsible. A successful suit could result in considerable financial compensation.
The first step is hiring an experienced personal injury attorney. An attorney knows the evidence needed to prove the case and can launch a thorough investigation to uncover the facts.
New York residents shouldn’t hesitate to get started. The State imposes a three-year statute of limitations on all personal injury lawsuits. Failure to act promptly could mean permanently forfeiting the right to legal recourse.
